1st Photography Contest

The projections of the National Board of Population estimate that Mexico’s housing demands will increase by almost 80% for the year 2050 (an average of 431,111 houses per year).

For Habitat for Humanity Mexico A.C., it is of great importance to contribute to the recognition of adequate housing as a fundamental human right. Because of this, and on the occasion of its 20^th anniversary and the commemoration of the International Volunteer Day, it extends an invitation to the general public for their participation in the First Photography Contest that will take place from September 28 to November 6^th of 2009.

Contest Rules

CONTESTANTS. Participation is open for the general public and anyone who is or has been involved as a beneficiary of volunteer of Habitat for Humanity Mexico, A.C. during the 20 years of the organization. Every contestant will be entitled to a participation diploma.

NUMBER. A maximum of three photographs will be accepted per contestant.

PSEUDONYM. Each participant will have to create a pseudonym or alias, which will be written on the bottom right-hand corner on the back of the photograph, on the technical specifications card, and on the front of the envelope along with the contestant’s information.

SPECIFICATIONS. The photograph print will have to be sent in color or black and white, in photographic letter size matte paper. Enclosed, send the image as a digital file with a JPG or JPEG format (camera captures as well as quality negative scans). The images can be sent on a CD or DVD without folders or subfolders. 

For analogue cameras, in case of being chosen for and award, the original negative will be required (if it’s not presented, the photograph will be disqualified). The digital files must be named with the pseudonym and the photograph’s name. Example: duckhouseofkata.jpeg

UNPUBLISHED PHOTOGRAPHS. The photographs must be owned or unpublished. This means that they can’t have participated in another contest or can’t be previously published, divulged, exhibited or awarded, and that they must be exempt of rights or responsibilities with any instance that might require authorization for the image’s use. The contestant accepts and acknowledges that, in case of any controversy concerning the intellectual property of the material before a third party, he or she will be the only responsible in regard to the damages that such controversy might generate, freeing HPHM from any responsibility. 

AUTHORIZATION FOR THE USE OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS. In sending the photographs, the contestant accepts that the images received will become part of the archives of Habitat for Humanity Mexico A.C, and that they can be used by the institution for their reproduction among different formats and presentations such as exhibits, printed and digital documents, and specialized audiovisual materials, among others. In every case, the author’s credit will be included. 

PRESENTATION OF THE WORKS.  The photographs, digital supports (CD or DVD), technical specifications card, and personal card must be delivered or sent by mail on a closed envelope. The sender’s name must be the pseudonym. The address is:

DEADLINE. The period of admission will begin after the publication of this announcement, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 18:00 hrs, and will end on October 30 of 2009.

JURY. The jury will be designated by HPHM. Their ruling will be indisputable. The decision will be communicated to the winners, and there will be a public announcement through different web pages during the celebration of the 20^th anniversary in December of 2009.

EXPOSITION. One photographic piece of every contestant will be exhibited during the 20^th anniversary celebration.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: The first 12 places will receive an honorary diploma for their participation. Their photographs will also be part of the 2009 calendar (which will be distributed nationally and internationally), as well as part of the commemorative collection cards.

There will be only one Winner: The winning photograph will be the calendar cover and will have a special mention in the activities’ report of 2009. The winner will also be part of the next jury and will receive his or her recognition during the celebration of the 20^th anniversary.

ACCEPTANCE. The participation in this photography contest implies the knowledge and acceptance of the contest’s terms. Any non- fulfillment of these terms can make the contestant subject to disqualification. Concurso de Fotografia

Las proyecciones del Consejo Nacional de Población estiman que la demanda de vivienda en México se incrementará en casi 80% para el año 2050, un promedio de 431,111 viviendas por año.

Para Hábitat para la Humanidad México, A.C. es de suma importancia contribuir al reconocimiento de la vivienda como un derecho humano fundamental, y es por esto que con motivo de su 20 aniversario y la conmemoración del Día Internacional del Voluntario, invita al público en general a participar en el Primer Concurso de Fotografía que se llevará a cabo del 28 de septiembre al 6 de noviembre de 2009.

BASES DEL CONCURSO

1.- PARTICIPANTES. Podrá participar público en general y todas aquellas personas que estén o hayan estado involucradas como beneficiarios o voluntarios de Hábitat para la Humanidad México, A.C. durante los 20 años de la organización. Todos los participantes serán acreedoras a diploma de participación.

2.- TEMAS.

• Vivienda en México: Problemática y retos.
• Hábitat México, sus familias y sus voluntarios.

3.- NÚMERO. Se podrá enviar un máximo de tres fotografías por participante.

4.- PSEUDÓNIMO. Cada participante deberá crear un pseudónimo o alias, el cual deberá ir en la esquina inferior derecha al reverso de la fotografía, en la ficha técnica de la fotografía y al frente del sobre donde irán los datos del participante

5.- ESPECIFICACIONES. Se deberá enviar la fotografía impresa a color o blanco y negro, en papel fotográfico mate, tamaño Carta, adjunto deberá ir la imagen en archivo digital con formato JPG o JPEG, tanto de captura de cámara como escaneados de calidad de negativos. Las imágenes pueden enviarse en un CD o DVD sin carpetas ni subcarpetas. Para las cámaras análogas en caso de haber sido seleccionada para premio se solicitara el negativo original. (de no presentarse la fotografía será descalificada). Los archivos digitales deben nombrarse con el pseudonimo y nombre de la fotografia. Ejemplo: patito.lacasadekata.jpeg

6.- FOTOGRAFÍAS INÉDITAS. Las fotografías deberán ser propias e inéditas, es decir, no podrán haber participado en otro concurso ni haber sido publicadas, divulgadas, exhibidas o premiadas con anterioridad y estar exentas de derechos o responsabilidades con cualquier instancia que pueda requerir autorización para el uso de las imágenes. El participante acepta y reconoce que, en caso de existir alguna controversia en materia de propiedad intelectual ante un tercero, será el único responsable respecto a los daños y perjuicios que pudiera llegar a generar dicha controversia, liberando a HPHM de cualquier responsabilidad que pudiera ocasionarle.

7.- AUTORIZACIÓN USO DE LAS FOTOGRAFIAS. El participante acepta, al enviar las fotografías que las imágenes recibidas formarán parte del acervo de Hábitat para la Humanidad México, A.C. y podrán ser utilizadas por esta institución para su reproducción en distintas presentaciones y formatos, para exposiciones, documentos impresos, electrónicos, materiales audiovisuales especializados entre otras aplicaciones. En todos los casos se incluirá el crédito del autor o la autora.

8.- PRESENTACIÓN DE LAS OBRAS.

-Las fotografías, los soportes digitales (CD o DVD), la ficha técnica y la ficha personal se deberán entregar o enviar por correo en sobre cerrado, y poner como nombre del remitente el pseudónimo a la dirección:

Dicho sobre deberá incluir:

· Fotografia (ver especificaciones en el punto 5),

· Ficha técnica que deberá incluir:

• Pseudónimo,
• Título de la fotografía,

• Una breve sinopsis e historia de la fotografía (máximo 1000 caracteres).

9.- PLAZO. El periodo de admisión de los trabajos será a partir de publicada esta convocatoria, de lunes a viernes en un horario de 9:00 a 18:00 hrs. y finaliza el 30 de Octubre de 2009.

10.- JURADO. El jurado estará designado por HPHM. Su fallo será inapelable y se dará a conocer a los premiados, haciéndose público en diversas páginas web durante la celebración del 20 aniversario en diciembre de 2009.

11.- EXPOSICIÓN: De cada participante se expondrá una de las obras recibidas durante la celebración del 20 aniversario.

12.- RECONOCIMIENTOS: Los primeros 12 lugares recibirán un diploma de mención honorífica por su participación, además de que sus fotografías serán parte del calendario 2009 (que será distribuido a nivel nacional e internacional) así como parte de la colección de tarjetas conmemorativas.

Habrá un único Ganador: La fotografía ganadora será la portada del calendario y tendrá mención especial en el informe de actividades del 2009, será parte del próximo jurado y recibirá su reconocimiento durante la celebración del 20 aniversario.

13.- ACEPTACIÓN. La participación en este concurso de fotografía implica el conocimiento y aceptación de las bases del concurso. Cualquier incumplimiento de las mismas puede ser objeto de descalificación. Al participar autorizan a HPHM a enviar información por correo electrónico relativa a este concurso y posteriormente de la organización (boletines, etc).
